NORD-OST final performances in Moscow: houses were sell-outs
May 11, 2003
The Theatre Center at Dubrovka was overcrowded on the day of the last performance of NORD-OST on May 10th.
In the morning of the NORD-OST closing date all the walls in the foyer and backstage of the theatre were decorated with grateful reviews of the NORD-OST’s spectators. This surprise was prepared for the theatre staff by the friends of the performance.
Each phrase from NORD-OST script seemed to have a special meaning that day. It turned out even that the libretto of the musical contained a prediction. In the episode at the railway station the conductor, hastening the passengers into the train, cries: "It is time to say good-bye – 10.05!", which now as it turned out coincided with the date when NORD-OST says good-bye to the Moscow audience.
During the applause the spectators presented the actors with lots and lots of flowers and, as tradition goes, forwarded to the stage a flock of paper planes.
The authors and actors, including all the children performers of the musical, sang the NORD-OST hymn – the choir “This is Love!”, which was taken up by the whole audience. The spectators' ovation would not cease long after the curtain was already closed. The NORD-OST flag on the roof of the Theatre Center was lowered at midnight.
